Alien Mahjong is one of the most distinctive Mahjong games out there, as the game doesn’t use the traditional rules on how to remove tiles and, instead, has gameplay more similar to a lot of mobile games where you have to remove elements from the board.

Alien Mahjong How to Match

The game is highly challenging since you lose if you can’t remove all the tiles within a specific number of plays and you have a limited number of helpful tools. It’s also an arcade-style game, so you have to beat three levels back-to-back, and your tools don’t refresh between levels.

Matching Tiles Isn’t Easy

Matching tiles in Alien Mahjong requires you to select groups of the same pieces. If two or more identical tiles are placed right next to each other, you can click them and remove them. There are two layers of tiles that you need to remove, and whenever you remove both layers, gravity makes the top pieces fall down.

Alien Mahjong Bombs

If you end up with no available matches on the board, you have a limited number of bombs that you can use. You can destroy one tile per bomb, and you should plan ahead when destroying tiles like this. If you manage to remove more than two sets of identical tiles in a single move, you get bonus bombs as a reward – one bonus bomb per every additional set destroyed.

Take Advantage of The Mechanics

If you can’t find matching tiles on the board, but the game doesn’t let you use bombs, you can use the “Hint” button to get a suggestion. You have three uses of the Hint button per level, and it does refresh between levels.

Alien Mahjong Hints

The main challenge comes from destroying all the tiles before you end up with no bombs. Bombs don’t refresh between levels, so you need to make moves in which you chain-destroy tiles. Always look at the tiles above the ones you’re removing.
