Amelies Mahjong is a highly challenging Roguelike Mahjong game. What makes it Roguelike is that you play a series of levels, starting from level 1. Every level is procedurally generated and randomized, with the tiles being in a different order every time you play the game. The levels get more challenging as the game goes on, and you have to figure out unique puzzles and tile arrangements inside the time limit to progress.

Except for its roguelike nature, the game has another distinguishing feature – if you lose a level, you have to start over. You can’t start over from the level you lost, so just like an adventure game, you have to grind through the series all over again.

Plan your moves

Amelie’s Mahjong doesn’t use classic Mahjong arrangements. The tiles are spread out randomly and in different ways. Your job is to find matching tiles and remove them from the board. The tiles you can use are highlighted by the game, while the unavailable ones are greyed out.

Amelies Mahjong uncovering

You should plan your matches very carefully, and you should prioritize uncovering all tiles rather than clearing an entire section. If you end up with no matches available, you lose the round, and in turn, the game. This is why prioritizing uncovering tiles is essential to progressing Amelie’s Mahjong. As you advance through the game, you’ll also have more than one pair of the same tiles. Planning how you use the multiple pairs to uncover tiles is crucial to completing every level.

Amelies Mahjong tile change

As the game progresses and the arrangements get more complicated, you’ll also be dealing with different tile designs – the game adds new tile graphics to confuse you and force you to have to adapt quickly. Did I mention you’re also fighting against a sand clock? All levels feature a ticking sand watch that you have to deal with – if the time ends, you lose.
