River Solitaire is a fun and challenging take on the classic FreeCell Solitaire game. In this version of the game, there are no HomeCells that you can use. Instead, you have additional Tableaus between which you can move cards.

The challenge in the game lies that you not only have to win the game by only navigating the Tableaus but there is also a time limit that you need to beat – and that time limit is only 5 minutes.

Strategically Navigate the Tableaus

The key to beating River Solitaire is using the Tableaus to your advantage. When you start a level, you’ll want to open up your Aces, 2’s, and 3’s as soon as possible. You want to do this, as your goal is to build 4 FreeCells in ascending order (from Ace to King).

River Solitaire Build Tableaus

The Tableaus work in reverse order – you can build them up in descending order (from King to Ace), and you can only do so in alternating colors. You also get a completely random Tableau dealt every game, so you need to adjust your strategy quickly every time.

You’re on Your Own

As already mentioned, you only have 5 minutes per level to win. There are 3 levels that you need to beat consecutively to win the game. Each level is harder than the previous one.

The game is more challenging than lots of other FreeCell-style games, as you have barely any helpful features. There is no Hint button that you can use if you get stuck, and you have only one or two Undos per level. You need to be quick with your moves due to the time limit, and there’s little room for mistakes due to the lack of Undos.

River Solitaire Timer

A good tip for beating River Solitaire is to try and start building Tableaus from King as quickly as possible. This trick will help you open up the board.
